—Fabiola Jean-Louis—
—Re-Writing History—
Fabiola Jean-Louis is a Haitian born fine artist and photographer currently based out of Brooklyn, NY. As a little girl growing up in New York, Fabiola was surrounded by art and fascinating characters. Her father was an artist with skills ranging from carpentry and oil painting to fashion design/construction.
In "Rewriting History: Paper Gowns & Photography," Fabiola Jean-Louis's exhibit is on display at the Dusable Museum of African American History. She explores the dark truths in history through photography and mixed-media art. Jean-Louis spoke to the Sun-Times about putting this exhibit together and the conversation she hopes it inspires.
Right in our own backyards of Bedford-Stuyvesant, East New York, Flatbush, and many more neighborhoods of Brooklyn, we are witnessing a groundswell of contemporary artists and intellectuals whose work is carving an important place in our history books. Their contributions to our national discourse should be highlighted now, while they are still residents!
